pink pink pink

The Pink Ribbon is the official trademark of the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Pink Ribbon Day is the signature day of the NBCF and is officially the fourth Monday in October. October is also internationally known as Breast Cancer Month.

However, as Pink for October states:

The hope is that you turn your site pink (in whatever way works for your site), go out to that World Wide Web thing and educate yourself about the multiple issues related to Breast Cancer, then take that newfound knowledge and tell someone else what you’ve learned.

    Did you know that many times more women are killed by heart disease than breast cancer? Why do people pay so much attention to breast cancer and so little to heart disease?

    An interesting comment…

    1. Heart disease IS given attention:
    In Australia we have a range of events for heart disease along the same lines as the Breast Cancer project, such as “National Heart Week” and “http://www.heartfoundation.org.au/Healthy_Living/Kids/Jump_Rope_for_Heart.htm “>Jump Rope for Heart” – a very successful program for school children.

    In NSW, a state of Australia, there are also very public events such as the upcoming “Seven Bridges Walk” to be held on 28 October – again designed to raise awareness of Heart disease.

    There is also international events such as World Heart Day. I’m sure there are many other events that I am not aware of designed to raise awareness about heart disease.

    2. Support is not mutually exclusive:
    I think that both diseases can/should be given attention. I don’t think it would be a good idea to focus only one disease because it kills more people. Raising awareness for any disease is a good thing.

    3. Personal reasons:
    Why do I try to help promote Breast Cancer? Because it has affected people close to me.

    There’s not campaign here in Argentina. My country doesnt look pink… And it should… Many women suffer this disease…

    Another way to contribute (if you’re like me and already have loads of photos tagged pink in your Flickr photostream) is to add pink photos to Passionately Pink for the Cure – Yahoo will be donating $1 to a US breast cancer organisation for every photo added.

    In America the heart disease issue is not promoted nearly as much as breast cancer but it’s interesting to know about what goes on in Australia.
