August Web Standards Group meeting - Sydney

We have a very exciting Web Standards Group meeting coming up in Sydney on Thursday 17 August. Two of Australia’s leading speakers will be addressing some of the issues facing web designers, developers and managers now and into the future.

Roger Hudson: Exploring tag clouds - and how users interact with them.

This presentation will explore ways of classifying information including the use of facets which can provide web users with a variety of information retrieval starting points. Roger will also look at the growing demand by users for greater control over how information is classified and the emerging role of tags, tag clouds and folksonomies.

Roger Hudson from Web Usability provides website usability and accessibility services to corporate, government and not-for-profit organizations. As an accessibility specialist, he is familiar with the needs of people with different disabilities and how these needs can be most effectively met. Roger has a detailed understanding of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines and has undertaken a range of accessibility research projects. He has conducted many usability and accessibility evaluations with a wide range of web users including those with disabilities.

Donna Maurer: Web 2.0 applications and some of the traps associated with newer forms of interaction.

This presentation will explore Web 2.0 applications and some of the traps associated with these newer forms of interaction.

Donna is a freelance information architect and interaction designer. She has been designing structures and interfaces for websites, intranets, web applications and business tools professionally for more than 5 years, and has been hanging around the internet for much longer than that. Donna is an experienced speaker and has presented at many events, most recently at the Information Architecture Summit in Montreal as well as Webstock New Zealand. Donna has also developed and presented very popular workshops on information architecture; interaction design and usability topics.
